So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 7:12
The Golden Rule is something we often hear in culture, and it goes back even before Jesus' lifetime. So how do we as Christians take this saying and make it a way to follow the discipleship of God? In this Sunday's message, Pastor Jon Laurenzo gives us three ways the Golden Rule can apply to the life of a modern Christian in the city, and how it is a response, summary and invitation for the world around us.
The Golden rule is a response to the grace and generosity of God.
- Whether you find yourself in a place of joy or lament, God is still good.
- I won't know how to do good to others in the city until I understand how God has been gracious and good to me.
The Golden Rule is a summary of the law of God.
- The entire Bible is summarized in this one sentence: The Golden Rule
- Matthew 5:17, "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law, or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them."
- We have to see Jesus as a fulfillment of Scripture
- You can never live out the Sermon on the Mount, you need the grace of God to help you live under the values of God.
- To follow the new covenant, you have to love other people.
The Golden rule is an invitation to extend the Kingdom of God.
- Your transformation is not complete if your outlook is self-centered
- The way that the world is going is easy to find, but there is a narrow way that is difficult to find where life is found
- Everything good in life comes from sacrifice, nothing worth while in your life was given to you
