“...who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen. As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.”
1 Timothy 6:17-19
Our time on earth is limited, yet how often do we live as though we have all the time in the world? It's easy to become distracted by worldly success, accolades, and even passions that can turn into idols. Guest speaker Micah McElveen, founder of Vapor Ministries, reminds us that God has created each of us with a unique purpose. We are called to steward our time, talents, and resources wisely—not for fleeting achievements, but for things of eternal value. Rather than clinging to temporary treasures, we are invited to invest in building God's Kingdom on earth, focusing on what will last forever.
What is the context?
- After a life-changing accident, Micah McElveen realized that life is brief, like a vapor, leading him to ask, “Will I waste it or invest it?”
How we can steward our lives for a better “return”...
Prioritize Your Limited Time
“Live today like there’s no tomorrow”
- Time is finite—while we can make more money, we can’t make more time. Our days are numbered, and we must be mindful and intentional with the time we’ve been given.
- We have a responsibility to use the time God has entrusted to us wisely. Instead of wasting time questioning His calls, He invites us to invest it purposefully.
Sow Your Eternal Talent
“Work today on what matters tomorrow”
- Heaven’s design is coursing through our veins. Each of us were handcrafted by Heaven, with God intimately involved in our creation.
- There are no accidents in God’s plan. Regardless of the circumstances of our beginnings, we are His masterpiece, created on purpose for a purpose.
- Life is about more than just surviving. We are called to use our talents in ways that make an eternal impact—investing today in what will matter forever.
Trade In Priceless Treasure
“Give today for gain tomorrow”
- Money is a powerful force with both positive and negative effects, which is why Jesus talked about it often. The spirit of mammon can easily draw our hearts away from God
- Generosity requires humility but preserves intimacy with God. When we trust in our material wealth, we invite pride, and pride leads to separation from God. Ultimately, we have only one true provider—God alone is our source of security.
- Generosity saves lives. God takes it personally when we care for the poor and do good works in His name.
- Generosity leads us to Heaven. Whether or not we receive earthly recognition, God is watching, and our true treasure is stored in Heaven.
