“Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.
Because of your unfailing love, I can enter your house;I will worship at your Temple with deepest awe.
But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them sing joyful praises forever.
Spread your protection over them, that all who love your name may be filled with joy.”
Psalm 5:3,7,11
What are you waiting for right now? Ready for Friday to be here already? Or maybe there’s a vacation that you’ve been planning for months? Whatever it is, big or small, many times it feels like it’s not coming fast enough. Psalm 5:3 says, “Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.” Just that one word, expectantly, changes my whole outlook on waiting. I don’t need to wait with a poor attitude, but with anticipation for what God is going to do and for the prayers he will answer.
So we know to wait with expectancy, but what do we do while we wait? Verse 7 tells us, “Because of your unfailing love, I can enter your house; I will worship at your Temple with deepest awe.” There’s our answer; we enter into his house and worship! We don’t do this based on our own good works or might. What a relief to know we don’t need to have it all together. We can enter into his presence because of his unfailing love. Let’s release the things that are weighing us down and pick up joy. While we wait for the dream job, the right apartment, the spouse…you fill in the blank; we can have joy!
Recently, I had a dream that I was on a road trip with God. There was a clear knowing that this was specifically a road trip, and not just driving to get to a destination. I was sitting in the passenger seat, excited for my arrival, but enthralled with the beautiful scenery. I invite you to take this trip with me. Whether your scenery is the mountains, forest, city, or countryside, I encourage you to look out the window, turn up the music, as loud as you can sing praises to our God. While you ride and wait, God will drive you down the most beautiful path. It may be full of sharp turns, bumpy roads, or detours but let the music take you away and worship him. You will get to your destination in due time.

Heavenly father, we thank you for teaching us how to wait with anticipation. While we wait, we will not distance ourselves from you, but we will draw near. Show us how to lean into your presence and bring us into a deeper level of worship. Protect us God from any attack of the enemy, while you restore to us the joy of your salvation! Amen
