A Full Life

“Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom He gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.”Colossians 3:16-17

“She lived a full life.”

I remember being confused as a kid when I first heard that at a funeral.

“Full”…meaning…full of experiences? Or maybe, filled with years?

God’s definition of a “full life” is a life filled with the message of Christ.

Sounds great, but what does that look like tangibly? Paul breaks it down into 3 simple parts (thanks, Paul.)

  1. Teach each other. As you earnestly seek him, God will impart wisdom to you and he wants you to put it into practice by (humbly) teaching and helping each other. Faith is a group project.
  2. Worship Him. This one is fairly straightforward. I’ve always been one to listen to worship music. But being married to a worship leader has taught me the power of singing aloud at home. When we sing, we’re filled up—don’t miss out by thinking this is only a Sunday thing.
  3. Represent Him. Whether you’re walking your dog or having a hard conversation with your boss, God’s saying: do it in a way that makes Jesus smile. We tend to overemphasize what we’re doing, while God tends to care more about how we do it.

Let’s allow the message of Christ to fill our lives by living this way. God has designed us for a life that’s rich in wisdom, overflowing with worship, and radiant with His love. Sounds like a full life to me.

Dear Jesus, please help me as I fill my life with you. Grant me wisdom so that I can use it to grow with others. Give me boldness to sing your praises—even during the week. And no matter what I do, help me to be better representative of you. Give me a thankful heart, even when I’m facing challenges. I love you, Lord.
