What Is Faith

Brooklyn Message Audio

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Hebrews 11:1

Faith is not positive thinking, wishful hope, or something we try to manufacture. It is a God-given reality that anchors us beyond what we can see or feel. When we understand what faith truly is, we begin to live differently, not led by circumstances, but grounded in the promises of God.

1. We Walk By Faith, Not By Sight
2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV)

Faith calls us to live beyond what we can see, feel, or logically understand. It means we are no longer led by our circumstances or limited by our natural perspective, but by the truth of God’s word. Walking by faith doesn’t deny reality, it chooses to trust that God’s reality is greater.

2. The Just Shall Live By Faith
Galatians 3:11 (NIV)

Faith is not just a moment, it is the way we live our entire lives. We are made right with God not by our effort, but by trusting in what Jesus has already done. This means we approach God with confidence, free from shame, because faith anchors us in His finished work.

3. Our Sacrifices Are Accepted by Faith
Hebrews 11:4 (ESV)

God is not just looking at what we offer, but the faith behind it. Worship, prayer, generosity, and obedience all flow from a place of trust in Him, not just routine or obligation. When faith is present, even the smallest offering becomes meaningful and pleasing to God.

4. It’s Impossible to Please God Without Faith
Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)

Faith is essential to our relationship with God, not optional. It is how we come to Him, how we remain in Him, and how we experience His presence. Without faith, we cannot fully engage with who He is, but with faith, we step into a relationship built on trust and confidence in His character.

Faith Lived Out
Romans 4:18–19 (NLT), 1 Peter 2:24 (NKJV), Exodus 15:26 (NKJV)

Abraham shows us that faith does not ignore facts, but chooses to believe God’s promise above them. Even when circumstances seem impossible, faith holds onto what God has said as the greater reality. The promises of God become like a title deed in our hands, secured by His word and confirmed by the Spirit, giving us confidence to stand no matter what we face.
